A highlight in this year’s short-film programs: ten films from seven
countries showing the scope of narrative strategies in animation,
narrative or abstract, from puppetoon via classic hand-drawn animation
to computer animation. Identity and perspective are the common theme.
The stories are presented in various techniques and styles, experimental
like in ARRIVE and VOR MIR, pretentious and emotional in RED RIVER, SONG
HONG and ROSALIE. The Hong Kong film, ANOTHER DAY OF DEPRESSION IN
KOWLOON works on the basis of meditation and, like the other
3D-animations, captivates with distinguished technical and aesthetic
quality. Gaudy specks in an ironic attitude deliver LITTLE TOMBSTONE,
reminiscent of Spaghetti Western, and JUNK, a black parable in color.
