Rudi Weissenstein (1910–1992) has formed Israel’s most comprehensive photo archive with more than a million negatives. The exhibit YOU, FORTUNATE EYES show a small part of the work, making Weissenstein one of the most important chronicler of his country. Fame earned his shot of the proclamation of the State of Israel in May 1948, where he was the only officially admitted photographer. Present for the opening of the exhibit will be Rudi Weissenstein’s grandson, Ben Peter, who runs the archive in Tel Aviv now. The 20-minute documentary YOU, FORTUNATE EYES – THE PHOTOGRAPHER RUDI WEISSENSTEIN by Jutta Louise Oechler will supplement the exhibit. Also showing, on November 18 at 3 pm at Murnau cinema, the award-winning documentary LIFE IN STILLS, dealing with the artistic heritage of Rudi Weissenstein.
