The original title NUWEBE refers to the main character’s age: nine. How convincing is the explanation of a small girl’s forced development initiated by upset termites and their ghost spirits? Could they also be responsible for her pregancy? In the beginning quite acceptable for the pesants. What’s the hamlet’s healer’s word on this? What’s the father’s hand in this? Director Laban tells a true story.
