Dany is 15½, gay, peroxide blonde and a penchant for lollies. When his Albanian mother dies, he persuades his elder brother Odysseas to travel with him to Thessaloniki. Here, they want to take part in a casting show and try and trace their Greek father, as they’re worried about being deported to Albania. When they finally arrive, chaos threatens. With dollops of the surreal and the outrageous, XENIA shows how the economic crisis in Greece is turning peoples’ lives on their heads.

Biography: Born in Athens, Panos H. Koutras studied in London at the London International Film School and then in Paris at the Sorbonne. From 1985 until 1995 he lived in Paris and London and made several shorts films which participated in festivals such as The London Film Festival and Festival Du Cinéma Mediterranéen where in 1991 the short film THE FALL AND RISE OF LYDIA VON BURER won the first prize. In 1995, he founded in Athens the company 100% Synthetic Films and started working on his first feature film THE ATTACK OF THE GIANT MOUSAKA. His second feature film, REAL LIFE, became a critics’ favorite in Greece (won the National Critics Award in 2004), and travelled to the International Toronto Film Festival. He is now working on his third feature film called STRELLA.
