Start of the most important German independent festival:
exground filmfest 23 offers more than „just“ films

Focus Latin America // Homage Ulli Lommel // Numerous German premieres

exground filmfest 23 started on Friday, November 12, with a bang. The opening film LIFE DURING
WARTIME – a very angry family satire by Todd Solondz – was nearly sold out.

In spite of rather heavy rain, a great number of interested short film fans participated in the cineastic city stroll A WALL IS A SCREEN. As of 10pm, the motto was „Shake your hips“ at the rousing opening party at the Kulturpalast, which went on into the early morning hours.

Saturday, November 13, brought the 6th Wiesbaden youth film contest as part of the YOUTH DAYS program. The audience voted for FREIER FALL, a directorial project of the Helene-Langeschool in Wiesbaden. The winners received a prize money of 45o Euros, sponsored by the State Agency for
Political Education.

Another highlight was the opening film of the homage to Ulli Lommel, BLANK GENERATION, shown to a packed house with Ulli Lommel in attendance. (…)

Press conference with Ulli Lommel a huge success

exground filmfest 23 dedicated its first ever homage to internationally acclaimed director, script writer and actor Ulli Lommel. For this reason, on October 8, 2020, a press conference was held in the foyer of the FilmBühne Caligari. Representatives from the press and TV (e.g. Frankfurter Rundschau, Wiesbadener Kurier, SAT 1) asked their questions and were impressed with Ulli Lommel’s personality. When asked about his connection with Wiesbaden, Lommel answered: "My special relationship with this city started two hours ago. One of the most beautiful cities in the world with an unbelievable energy – what’s going on there?" exground filmfest 23 presents 8 feature films by and starring Ulli Lommel, as well as a reading and an exhibition.
