The FC St. Pauli is one of the most popular soccer clubs in the world. The traditional club got a heap of new fans from left, alternative, antifascist circles in the 1980s. Music played a major role back then: punk-rock signified being different and revolt. The Jolly Roger is a definite anti-symbol and stands for alternative supporters, yet it has become fashionable long since. Still the club resists commerce as much as possible. Supporters of St. Pauli have a clear mindset and stand for it, which is unique in the world of soccer. KIEZKICK UND PUNKROCK portrays the real capital of the club, the eclectic and multi-layered fans also from the musical side and asks among others Thees Uhlmann, but also avowed HSV-fans (!) like Superpunk. A wonderfully entertaining study.
