A fatal car accident gets Andrea Dewenter on her way home. In retrospect the Dewenters seem a perfectly normal family: Andrea is housewife and writer. Husband Christian has an affair. Son Lars is an actor in far-away Berlin, his sister Elaine finds growing up difficult. Andrea’s death leaves three people emotionally challenged and incapable of dealing with mourning, with comforting and supporting each other. For a short time Christian ponders leaving his children and start over with his lover. Lars shows responsibility, takes care of Elaine and organizes the funeral. With growing demands they communicate more and realize, that none of them can deal with the loss on their own.
