exground filmfest presents the winner of the German competition of the Oberhausen festival 2011. The documentary approach TRACES OF AN ELEPHANT reflects in a number of interviews different attitudes towards Alan Clarke’s film ELEPHANT (Belfast, 1989). Along with their personal memories of the controversial film, the interview partners also reflect on how the city of Belfast has changed over the past 20 years. The documentary approach merges with the intensity of Clarke’s fictional film - a cinematic reflection on violence and on the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
