The award-winning film impressively shows two underdogs’ struggle for survival. When Pedro’s wife leaves him, his car is stolen, he is kidnapped and left in the jungle – he leaves the city and heads for the South coast of Brazil to start a new life. He runs a sausage place, but no one buys. He meets Celia, desperately looking for a job to support herself and her granny. Lonely she roams the dunes, collects crab and begs fishermen for food. A loving relationship evolves between Pedro and Celia, but then gets cruelly interrupted by Celia becoming a victim of slave trade and prostitution.
