MINER'S DAY - 15 years ago people here had workplaces and lived happily. Since the mine was closed, there’s only old barracks left here, mining dumps and people not needed any longer, who don’t see sense in life any longer. This is the story of one family in this ghost-town. Is it possible to survive in such conditions and not to sink below a line, where all moral values vanish? Are these people’s dreams of happiness destroyed forever? Regardless how horrible reality, humans always look out for a holiday, for their dreams and for love.
SANYA AND SPARROW - Russia. In the centre of Moscow, 6 kilometres from the Kremlin. Two workers in a gravel quarry. Two men from very different parts of this huge country meet here: Sanya, 37, and Sparrow, 19. They are migrant workers within their own country – they have the choice to live on something like 3,000 roubles (75 EUR) at home or set out to a big city working for 30,000 roubles. But they don’t necessarily get their payment. Most of the free time goes into explaining their family why they can’t return – they just don’t have the money to even buy a ticket to go home. Two people in a barrack, outside there’s only work. How long will they have to wait for their money? How can two people on the edge of despair support each other? Beneath all problems and conflicts the usual human thoughts and emotions, high hopes for the future.
