Small but great – this is this year’s motto of the News from Asia program at exground filmfest. Four films from the Philippines and Japan give an insight into the current creative film work in Asia. The Philippine independent cinema is represented by the international premiere of the off-key zombie-gay-comedy REMINGTON AND THE CURSE OF THE ZOMBADINGS by Jade Castro, a cult movie in the making. Cult is also the word for the Manga series "Gantz", and not only in Japan! In Germany there are numerous fans of the 27 volumes of the science-fiction comic as well. Director Shinsuke Sato has made the first film adaption of this voluminous material. At exground filmfest we show the long awaited German premiere of the action spectacle GANTZ 2: PERFECT ANSWER, which already took Japan’s cinemas by storm. Also from Japan: the bizarre erotic-thriller GUILTY OF ROMANCE by shooting star Sion Sono, a visual and emotional spectacle that takes a look at the dark obsessions of its protagonists. GUILTY OF ROMANCE is the third and final installment in his "hate-trilogy", which began with LOVE EXPOSURE – successful in German cinemas – and COLD FISH. A promising new find is Japanese director Ryo Yoshikawa. With PANORAMA, his graduation film at the Graduate School of Film and New Media/Tokyo University of the Arts, we present an unusual relationship drama, which impresses with excellent actors and thoroughful art work.
