The right of the Palestinian refugees to return to their villages, from which their parents had to flee, is at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict; the answer to this question will predominately determine the future of the Middle East. Eyal Sivan visited one of these refugee camps the day after the evacuation of the region by the Israeli army. A few kilometres from Jericho and built 50 years ago, "Aqabat-Jaber" is today a refugee camp under Palestinian control. However, its inhabitants have not seen their status change. According to the peace treaty between Israel and Palestine, they are still refugees and cannot go back to their home villages. Can peace between Israel und Palestine be possible without the return of the Palestinian refugees to their homeland which has now become Israel?
