Two filmmakers, the Israeli Sivan and the Palestinian Khleifi travelled their native country in 2002 – along the virtual line drawn by the UN resolution 181 from November 29, 1947, according to which Palestine and Israel were to be two separate countries.
Part 1 of the 270 minutes award-winning film takes us from Ashdod to the border of Gaza. The South lies in Gaza’s shadow. You don’t talk about Gaza. It is blocked off, you can’t enter it. It is ethnically "cleansed". Hardly any Palestinians live here. People talk "freely", as they are among themselves. There is freedom of speech, but also a struggle regarding Gaza, evoking feelings of guilt. There’s mainly refugees living in Gaza, and people know that.
