We are politically highly topical with the six documentaries in the retrospective dedicated to Israeli director Eyal Sivan. After the appearance by Mahmud Abbas before the United Nations, the three parts of the film ROUTE 181 are extremely informative and serve as background for the claim of the Palestines for their own state. In these films, we hear the opinions of people along the border line suggested in 1947 in the separation plan for Palestine and accepted during the resolution 181 by the UN general assembly. Jews and Palestines explain their points of view. In his film AQABAT-JABER, PEACE WITH NO RETURN?, which kicks off the retrospective on November 14, 2011, Sivan deals with the question if peace is possible without the return of the Palestine refugees to their parents’ homes from the camp of the same name. This is a highly topical issue with regard to the news about the planned settlement policy in Israel. After the screening, the director will be available to answer the audience’s questions. Interesting historical backgrounds to one of the best-known Israeli export articles are being provided by JAFFA – THE ORANGE’S CLOCKWORK. THE SPECIALIST is a testimonial of the inglorious German history. In it, Sivan documents the trial of the early 1960s against the organizer of the Jew’s deportation to the concentration camps, following Hitler’s orders, Adolf Eichmann.
