exground filmfest celebrates its birthday! We really managed to hold out
until the 25th festival edition. A good reason to celebrate with a
small, but fine and exquisite program. We dug out some of our favorite
films, but will also show new films and have a surprise in store! On
April 19, 1990 the first film of then „exground on screen“ was INTRO
with John Waters. John Waters can also be seen and heard in BLANK CITY by Céline Danhier, who in her documentary shines a light on the
independent cinema of the late 1970s in New York – a reunion with many
exground-guests of former years. One of them, Karl Nussbaum, with THE
ART OF FILM AND VIDEO PERFORMANCE presents part of his oeuvre, some of
them have been screened at exground, some of them new. More directors,
who have presented their films in Wiesbaden in the past, have new films
at exground filmfest this year: Kurt Voss came in 2001 with his film
DOWN AND OUT WITH THE DOLLS – now he forms part of the
American-Independents section with his new film STUTTER, he co-directed
with Allison Anders. Other than
that we have selected some of our absolute favorites for this section:
THE IRON LADIES by Yongyooth Thongkonthun, THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADES ESTRADA by Tommy Lee Jones, TIME OF THE WOLF [WOLFZEIT] by
Michael Haneke and WHOLETRAIN by Florian Gaag. And the best comes last:
on November 23, 2012 at midnight we invite our audience to a
SNEAK-HIGHLIGHT – let yourself be surprised (admission free)!
