Karl Nussbaum has been a friend of exground filmfest’s for years. As early as the mid-1990s we showed his totally crazy films. But since then his filmmaking has taken a different direction. His experimental documentaries, highly political, RAW IMAGES FROM THE OPTIC CROSS and THANATOS & EROS: A MONSTER LOVESTORY, deal with his own experience as child of a Holocaust-survivor, with the fears and ghosts of his childhood and the journey into his family’s past. A piece of German history without the same old historical footage. In his latest works Karl Nussbaum still researches the father-son relationship, but in far more artistic and abstract manner. The advancement of the formal aspects leads to his video performance HILBERT SPACE. For this special program we found an unusual location in KunstHaus.
