Directed in a sensitive way, this film deals with violence in the family, female powerlessness, first love and courage – told from the perspective of a young girl caught between sense of duty and youthful vigor: 13-year old Johanna (brilliantly played by newcomer Elisa Essig) is in love for the first time. While other teenagers can enjoy their time carefree, the blatant outsider has to take care of her little sister and her mother and watch out herself, too. For many years a secret has been kept in her family, which by no means must get known outside. Given the circumstances, will Johanna make her way from helpless girl to self-determined young woman?
