17-year old Lena is a lonely, corpulent girl. She lives with her selfish mother Danka in a sad apartment block in Rotterdam. Danka takes every opportunity to point at her daughter’s overweight, along with other mean commentary, causing Lena suffering. Only when dancing and during her hit and run sexual adventures Lena feels something like happiness. This changes abruptly, when she meets attractive, but – as will turn out – unreliable Daan, who much to her surprise is interested in her. She starts a love affair with him and soon moves in with him and his weird father Tom. Lena is on cloud nine to leave her old life behind, but by and by her new happiness shows cracks. Unrelentingly the film moves towards its dramatic conclusion.
