Das Wies- badener Filmfestival steht stellvertretend dafür, dass sich mit ehrenamtlichem Engagement vieles erreichen lässt, wenn es gepaart ist mit Professionalität und profundem Sachver- stand. Dafür danke ich dem gesamten Festivalteam. In der Tat ist der Werdegang von exground filmfest in den ver- gangenen 23 Jahren erstaunlich, und auch dieses Jahr hat das Organisationsteam wieder ein erstklassi-ges Programm zusammengestellt – in den Festivalreihen American Independents, International und Neues aus Deutschland sowie in vielen Kurzfilmprogrammen und Wettbewerben. Der diesjährige Länderfokus führt uns ans andere Ende der Welt – nach Neuseeland – und bietet einen Querschnitt durch das dortige Filmschaffen in den vergangenen 60 Jahren. Peter Jackson und Jane Campion, die einst das neuseeländische Kino zu internationaler Blüte führten, sind darin ebenso vertreten wie Nachwuchsregisseure mit ihren Kurzfilmen. Zudem wird der erfolgreichste neuseeländische Film aller Zeiten, BOY von Taika Waititi, das Festival eröffnen. Bei aller vertretenen Prominenz im Programm pflegen die Macher aus Wiesbaden aber die Herkunft des Festivals aus dem Underground- und Experimentalfilm und geben da- mit exground filmfest ein unverwechselbares Profil: Auch 2013 kann sich das Publikum wieder auf spannende Einblicke in andere Kulturen und Subkulturen freuen – zum Bei- spiel in die Death-Metal-Szene Angolas, in die Elektromusikclubs Moskaus oder in das Undergroundfilmbusiness der 1970er-Jahre mit der John-Waters-Muse DIVINE. So wird der ein oder andere Film wieder für viel Gesprächsstoff und kontroverse Diskussionen sorgen. Ich wünsche den Organisatoren von exground filmfest einen reibungslosen und erfolgreichen Verlauf mit vielen begeisterten Teilnehmern – und den Gästen selbst, dass sie viele neue An- und Einsichten in das internationale Filmschaffen gewinnen. The Wiesbaden film festival is a good example for how far you can get with unpaid work, when teamed up with professionalism and profound expertise. That’s what I thank the whole festival team for. Indeed the development of exground filmfest over the past 23 years is amazing, and the organizing team has once more compiled a first-class program – in the festival sections American Independents, International and Neues aus Deutschland as well as in many short film programs and competitions. This year‘s country in focus leads us to the other end of the world – to New Zealand – and offers a cross-section of the film production there in the past 60 years. Peter Jackson and Jane Campion, who once initiated the international blossoming of New Zealand films, are present as well as young blood with their short films. On top of that, the most successful New Zealand film ever, BOY by Taika Waititi, will open the festival. With all notables in the line-up the Wiesbaden organizers still care for the festival roots in the underground- and experimental film and thus create exground filmfest‘s unique profile: once again this year the audience can look forward to interesting glimpses into different cultures and subcultures – for instance the death-metal scene of Angola, the electronic music clubs of Moscow or the underground film business of the 70s with John Waters’ muse DIVINE. One or the other film will certainly cause a lot of talking and cont- roversies. May the organizers of exground filmfest have a smooth and successful festival with many enthusiastic viewers – and may the guests gain new views and insights in the international film production.
