GUTEN TAG, RAMÓN tells the story of Ramón, a young Mexican, who has tried unsuccessfully five times to cross the US border. Back home he refuses to become a criminal. He decides instead to look for a friend’s aunt in Germany, but he never finds her. He survives in the streets until he meets Ruth, a retired and lonely woman. Beyond language barriers and prejudices they develop an amazing friendship.
"For years I wanted to make a film about a Mexican teen in Germany. I live in Germany for a long time and I wanted to portrait both countries in a positive way. The friendship that the main characters Ramón and Ruth develop is a mirror of what I have seen as a foreigner in Germany. A big number of young people in Mexico migrate to the US. I wanted to tell the story of the few that head to Europe. I have chosen Germany because I know it very well." (Jorge Ramírez-Suárez)
Biography: Jorge Ramírez-Suárez was born in Mexico City and lives in Germany. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (UNAM), a Photography Diploma (Escuela Activa de Fotografía) and a second B. A. in Film from the Mexican Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC). He obtained immediate international recognition with his debut CONEJO EN LA LUNA [RABBIT ON THE MOON]. It premiered at the "Berlinale Special" official selection of the Berlin International Film Festival in 2005. It was sold in 30 countries and was presented in many film festivals. In 2011, his third film LOS INADAPTADOS [THE MISFITS] had its world premiere in Guadalajara International Film Festival and won the Audience Award. GUTEN TAG, RAMÓN, his latest film, had a red carpet Gala at FICM (Morelia International Film Festival). It has been picked up by Fox International Productions and is distributed by Twentieth Century Fox in the US, Mexico and Germany among other countries.
