At the beginning of the 11th "youth days – International Youth Film Competition" stands 13-year old Rad in the pleasurable US production PING PONG SUMMER, who with the help of an eccentric neighbor lands a full-fledged victory. But it doesn’t continue quite as gayly: in this year’s Cannes jury winner MOMMY by Xavier Dolan we follow the desperate fight of a mother for her psychologically weak son. Problems of a totally different kind have the two girls in SITTING NEXT TO ZOE: their friendship is been tested severely – because of a boy, of course! Two girls on their search for identity in METALHEAD from Iceland (with lots of hard rock music) and 52 TUESDAYS from Australia. The young migrants in the Swiss documentary NEULAND have to orient themselves in a strange country. In VIOLET Belgian director Bas Devos finds impressing images for a traumatic experience of a boy. A punk band is in the center of WE ARE MARI PEPA from Mexico – and the boys’ problems of keeping the band together. With so many high-class films the jury will have a hard time to award the EUR 2,500 in prize money. On top of that the audience will once more award a prize endowed with EUR 1,000. The youth days will be opened with the 10th Wiesbaden Youth Film Competition, in which local fresh blood competes for cash- and non-cash prizes worth EUR 600.
