"One of 2015’s must-see docs" (Entertainment Weekly)! Is there such a thing as a "gay voice"? Why do some people "sound gay" but not others? Why are gay voices a mainstay of pop culture but also a trigger for bullying and harassment? DO I SOUND GAY? explores these questions and more and includes revealing interviews with Margaret Cho, Tim Gunn, Don Lemon, Dan Savage, David Sedaris and George Takei.
"A playful, heartfelt investigation" (Time)

Biography: US journalist David Thorpe never intended to become a filmmaker. Thorpe was getting his MFA in creative non-fiction with the idea to write a book about his anxiety over his voice, and more to the point, his anxieties over sounding "gay". But Thorpe realized that a book wouldn’t do the topic justice, so he dropped out of the program and funneled the money he would have spent on his classes into what would become, four years later, his debut documentary DO I SOUND GAY? In 2014, the film premiered in the IFC Theater in New York City and has since then be shown at numerous film festivals all over the world.

Filmography: 2014 DO I SOUND GAY?

Awards: Jury Award for Best Documentary Feature (KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, India 2015), second place in the People’s Choice Award competition (Toronto International Film Festival, Kanada 2014)
