The story of the relationship between Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and last survivor of his people, and two scientists who work together over the course of 40 years to search the Amazon for a sacred healing plant. The film premiered at the 2015 Cannes International Film Festival where it won the C.I.C.A.E. Award, and was chosen as Colombia’s entry for the Oscar for best foreign-language film.

Biography: Ciro Guerra was born in Río de Oro/Colombia in 1981 and studied film and television at the National University of Colombia. EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT is his third feature. Both previous films were chosen to represent Colombia in the Academy Awards Competition.
