He has no family and no official identity. After a fateful encounter, he is forced to hastily get out of town. Now he has to fight for survival in Tehran, where he comes across others who live on the margins of society. Valderama needs to get money and a passport if he is going to make it. "I know that child labour is a common phenomenon in most developing countries. (...) Moreover, I know that many of them are deprived of basic social rights through not having an ID card. I knew as well that, thanks to my documentary experience, I could illustrate these children’s difficult lives via a feature fiction film." ( Abbas Amini) |
Biography: Abbas Amini was born in 1983 in Abadan/Iran and started making short films at the age of 13. In 2001, he moved to Tehran and was involved in several feature films as a director’s assistant. He then began making documentary films and became especially orientated towards social and child welfare issues. He has since then directed a number of shorts and documentaries on social issues and the terrible consequences of the Iran/Iraq war. VALDERAMA is Amini’s first feature film as a director.
