BELOW SEA LEVEL impressively describes the life of a group of men and women forgotten by society. 190 miles southeast of Los Angeles, 129 feet below sea level, in the desert: no water or electricity, in their cars or trailers. An apocalyptic place, still home to people with very different reasons to drop out. People coming here have to start over and form a new community with own rules. The water provider is the only contact to the outside world.
Director Gianfranco Rosi spent four years with them in their hermetically isolated world and also ponders the limits of such a community.
