MORUK
by Serdal Karaça Germany 2009 Digital Betacam 29 min. OV Germ. ST
Introverted Hakan (Burak Yigit) and fun-loving Murat (Oktay Özdemir) are best buddies. Every day they hang out in "their" block in Kreuzberg, smoke weed, dream, discuss and argue. When taken for drug dealers, they enjoy ripping off people. Same procedure every day, time just passes by.
When pretty Irina and her friend cross their path, hope for change arises.
The black/white-film transports Beckett’s "Waiting for Godot" to today Berlin-Kreuzberg in Jim Jarmusch-style. Karaça begins his film with the clichés in our heads, namely about drug dealers, and destroys them successfully in the further course of the film.
The "protagonists" of MORUK aren’t that unmotivated as it seems at first sight …
