The world is made of those who eat and those being eaten. Raimundo Nonato, our protagonist in ESTÔMAGO – A GASTRONOMIC STORY, finds an alternative way: he cooks. First he cooks in a bar, then in an Italian restaurant and then in prison. How did he end up in jail? It takes some time to realize, what happened when. The film first takes us to a run-down café, where our hungry hero can’t pay for his meal. After washing dishes he stays on and begins to cook. His fried chicken becomes popular and Raimundo goes on to cooking in an Italian restaurant. He cooks and learns how to get by in a society divided in two between those who eat and those being eaten. What he learns, is a series of rules he uses to his advantage: in the end, the cook must also get his share of food – and only he knows which part tastes best. ESTÔMAGO is an adult fable on power, sex and cooking.

„Perhaps not every patron will leave ESTÔMAGO satisfied but it is not possible to watch this film without growing hungry.“ Dennis Seguin, Screen Daily, Oktober 2007)
