Two films of exground filmfest 28 nominated for the Academy Awards

Festival edition 2016 in planning: Country in Focus Iran // Call for Entries

At the 88th Academy Awards ceremony on February 28, 2016 two films, shown in November 2015 at exground filmfest, compete for the Oscars in Los Angeles: the French-Turkish-German coproduction MUSTANG by Deniz Gamze Ergüven and the Colombian-Venezuelan-Argentinian coproduction EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT by Ciro Guerra are nominated for the Academy Award as best foreign language film. The exground filmfest team congratulates the nominees and keeps their fingers crossed for one of the two countries taking the Oscar home.

The sensitive drama on five freedom-loving sisters growing up in the oppressive, patriarchal society of a Turkish village, opened the youth days of exground filmfest in November 2015; MUSTANG, competing for France at the Academy Awards, also won the main award of exground youth days – International Youthfilm Competition, endowed with 2,500 EUR. Colombia's Oscar entry EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT was shown in exground filmfest's section International; the shamanic adventure drama with its magical visuals set at the Amazon river was one of the audience favorites at exground filmfest 28.
