A frightening depiction of a misogynist men’s world. Hell on earth according to BOG OF BEASTS is a Brazilian village near a sugar cane plantation. Here lives 16-year old Auxiliadora with her brutal grandfather. During the days she is his household slave and washer woman for the village. At night Heitor makes even more money with his granddaughter: at the gas station she has to show herself naked to the truckers willing to pay. At the same time a group of young men around rich Everardo waste their time with violent orgies with prostitutes, alcohol and drugs. Among them sadistic Cícero, who is hot for the virgin Auxiliadora.
Assis’ BOG OF BEASTS depicts male fantasies of violence and women, who are convinced themselves, that they are worth nothing. There’s no hope for the girl and also not for Brazil, as shown in the film, which has lost each and every connection to moral values.
