Best friends Francis (director Xavier Dolan) and Mary are sworn-in fashionistas. At a party they meet young Nick with golden curls, who just moved to Montreal from the countryside and who in Mary’s and Francis’ eyes is beautiful beyond belief. They fall in love for him, but Nick is provokingly non-reacting and the friends’ love-duel begins. A trip to the countryside marks the highlight of this dance and seriously challenges the trio’s friendship.
The Canadian wunderkind Xavier Dolan didn’t just direct his second film, he wrote the screenplay, he plays one of the main characters, he not just edited and co-produced the film, but also was responsible for the production, the set design and the fantastic costumes. The wonderfully tragicomic film about love is a feast for all senses, interrupted by short and absurd interviews.
