The sensational debut of shooting star Xavier Dolan, overwhelmed with awards and praised by the critics: Rebel Hubert has a great time – the 17-year-old has a cute boy-friend, no problems at school and prospect of a place of his own. If only there wasn’t his mother, with whom he constantly quarrels. When all attempts fail to come to terms, his mother decides to send him to boarding school – which has its consequences. Dolan’s film convinces with razor-sharp dialogues and a resourceful imagery. It’s great pleasure to watch Hubert and his mum fighting, as both are neither dumb nor non-adroit. However, Hubert tries to understand, how a tender mother-son relationship during childhood could turn into a love-hate relationship. |
