One night, on a nondescript street corner in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, an unarmed black man is killed after an altercation with police officers. A witness to the incident who captured it all on camera, a sympathetic police officer, and a high school athlete who becomes politicized by the incident are the three protagonists of this uniquely constructed drama. Through their eyes, we’re taken deep into a community simmering with racial tension and struggling to forge a path forward. In Green’s bold and striking debut, he takes a story that we’ve, sadly, heard all too often in recent years, and explodes it, creating new opportunities to confront our own prejudices and assumptions head on.

New York native Reinaldo Marcus Green is a writer, director, and producer. He is a graduate of NYU Tisch Graduate Film School and MONSTERS AND MEN is his first feature narrative. Most recently, he participated in the 2017 Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Lab, where he was named a recipient of the 2017 Sundance Institute/Time Warner Fellowship. He was one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” (2015). His short film STOP premiered as an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival (2015). His previous short film, STONE CARS had its international premier as an official Cinefondation selection at the International Film Festival in Cannes 2014. MONSTERS AND MEN won the Special Jury Award for “Outstanding First Feature” at Sundance Film Festival 2018.
