After three years at boarding school, Hanna is returning home to her little village to help her father in his butcher’s shop during her break. Soon she learns that she is not welcome in the village. Everyone remembers the horrific news story about her mother’s death which was followed by the discovery of three dead men in the marsh. While superstition rules the village, everyone believes her mother was a witch and had lured these men into the marsh directly to their death. While struggling to make friends, she meets the extroverted city girl Eva. Thinking she has finally found a friend, scary accidents are staring to happen around her, while Hanna’s confidence and with that her “power” starts to grow…

Esther Bialas grew up in Wiesbaden and Mainz. After completing her A-levels, she travelled to Siberia as a film editor’s assistant. Following that, she worked as a director’s assistant for theatre and film. She began realising her own short film projects, and in 2006 she took up audio-visual media studies at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin with a focus on directing. In 2007, she was involved in founding the film collective “Das Kind mit der goldenen Jacke”. In 2009, her short film BEYOND FORTUNE celebrated its premiere at the International Film Festival in Cannes. In 2010, she began studying directing at Hamburg Media School, graduating in 2012. HANNA’S HOMECOMING is her feature film debut. Esther Bialas lives and works as a director in Hamburg.
