Carsten Aschmann was born in Hannover in 1965. After completing his A-levels and civil service, he studied philosophy and German, and finally film, at the HBK Braunschweig. In 1992, he founded the film studio “Sektor 16”. In 1995, he received a degree in painting in film. Following that, he was a master student in the film class and in 2016/2017 an instructor for design and media at the University of Applied Sciences in Hannover.
