An autobiographical story, says the director. The story is set at the places of my childhood, which I keep returning to in my dreams. I can still hear the sound of the constantly wet wind. I see the inhospitable beach. The sea is yellow and grey. Storms make the walls tremble. Ceci knows, she mustn’t reveal her identity to her fellow students. She was told the survival of her family depended on her silence. Yet she just wants to be a child and belong to the group. But that saddens and enrages her mother.

In magnificent images (Berlinale Silver Bear for best camera) THE PRIZE shows the banality of fascism with its ridiculous rituals, shows oppression and fear, without ever talking about it.
