exground youth days – 9. International Youthfilm-Competition
The youth juryof the 9. International Youthfilm Competition of exground youth days awarded the prize for best feature-length film to the Dutch-Belgian coproduction LENA by Christophe van Rompaey. The jurors motivated their decision: „The main actress delivers a great performance and takes the viewer into her chaotic, dull, and sad life, marked by disappointments. PARTICULARLY Lena‘s face in close-up is a recurring stylistic device, impressively mirroring her mental state.“ The award is endowed with EUR 2,500, given by the state capital Wiesbaden.

The youth jury awarded best shortfilm GUCK WOANDERS HIN (Look somewhere else) by director Charlotte Rolfes, whose film in a very sensitive way tackles the rarely openly discussed issue of sexual assault within the family. This award is not endowed.

Before that the audience on Saturday, 17th November, had established the winner of the Wiesbaden Youthfilm Competition. The shortfilm HAND IN HAND by a students‘ group of the Wiesbaden Sophie-und-Hans-Scholl-Schule came in first place in the voting; at the same time the director could enjoy EUR 450 in prize money, donated by the Hessian State Centre for Civic Education.
