An extremely strong section this year – 20 films. Among them two
European premieres, four German premieres and promising directorial
debuts. With three films each Austria, the Philippines and Russia are
most present, followed by works from France, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay,
Brazil, Australia, Great Britain, Portugal and Norway. As we can’t
mention all 20 films here, we just want to mention some highlights. KUMA
and STILLLEBEN are two debut films from Austria, which couldn’t be more
different, while they’re both dealing with family. In his award-winning
KUMA Umut Dag introduces us to the microcosm of a Turkish family living
in Vienna and looks at the relationship of tradition and modernity. In
STILL LIFE [STILLLEBEN] Sebastian Meise shows us a family’s facade of
normality collapsing at the knowledge about the father’s fantasies.
Sergej Loban’s Russian film sensation CHAPITEAU SHOW, with a duration of
207 minutes the longest exground-film 2012, shows the four overlapping
microcosms "Love", "Friendship", "Respect" and "Cooperation" - not one
minute too long. BEN LEE: CATCH MY DISEASE lets Hollywood-stars like
Claire Danes, Winona Ryder, Michelle Williams and Jason Schwartzman talk
and give insight into the unusual life of singer and songwriter Ben Lee.
The fast-paced Norwegian comedy KING CURLING makes everyone laugh –
complete with unusual findings on the new trend sport curling!
