Strong women you can see, among others, in the nominee for Hessian film award, Andy Sieges' BETI UND AMARE. In the first Ethiopian science fiction film a woman flees from Mussolini's troops. In the Palestinian entry VILLA TOUMA three sisters ignore the real world. In the Swiss film WHAT’S BETWEEN US Alice has to deal after 18 years of marriage, that her husband is into men now. Catherine Deneuve, also present in our program, surely counts as strong woman. The Grande Dame of French cinema plays a female apostle in Jaco van Dormaels comedy THE BRANDNEW TESTAMENT.
In JUST JIM by the new British directing wunderkind Craig Roberts teenager Jim is taken in by Emile Hirsch. Guy Maddin's new film THE FORBIDDEN ROOM is a who's who of acting stars - Charlotte Rampling, Udo Kier, Geraldine Chaplin etc. In phantasmagorical sequences Maddin sends his audiences on a delightfully weird trip through film history, liberally using the silent film pool.
